This week had a visit from Andy Milne & Benoit Delbecq in advance of their Winterruption duo piano gig as part of the Cultural Olympiad. Talked about their shared history and music, techniques for preparing pianos, creating sonic environments and things that happen on the same day - Benoit's two son's birthdays and their Vancouver and Edmonton gigs on Saturday for example. Joined a little later by Songlines proprietor Tony Reif and had an interesting exploration of their music.

Started appropriately with a duo piano version of the A-Train theme, and had a feature for P.J. Perry's recent release which has a delightful arrangement of the chestnut Limehouse Blues and some other fun.

Other Winterruption previews included Francois Houle's Ice Storm setting, Quartet Bozzinni's portraits of Montreal-based composers, and the Mamou Playboys in New Orleans.

Also some new and recent releases from clarinetist Mort Weiss (a solo clarinet recording to match Francois'), from guitarist Lawson Rollins with special guest Flora Purim and some jazzgrass from the Project Trio.

Other things going on around town Claudia Villela upcoming at Capilano Theatre on March 5th, the WOW Orchestra at the Cellar last weekend and finished up with O Canada for the podium!

Coming up this Friday March 5th, ace guitarist and Black Hen Records proprietor Steve Dawson will be joining me in the studio around 4:30 to talk about the exciting Mississippi Sheiks Tribute project and concert at Capilano Theatre on March 13/14 (see http://www.capilanou.ca/news-events/...nces/folk.html). This week I'll also be filling in for Blues Boy Bill on the Crossroads Country Blues program where I'll be featuring (you guessed it) the music of Bo Carter and The Mississippi Sheiks!
