Although already an accomplished jazz guitarist, Ihor
has chosen in recent years, to make a focused commitment
to refining his skills and further developing his personal
approach. His musical direction features an expressive,
compositional style in which both melodic and harmonic
elements interact equally. For him, the inclusion of
bass and drums is an ideal complement to this approach
and has been Ihors favourite musical vehicle for
a number of years. He performs with the trio on a regular
basis and has taken the first step in realizing his
musical commitment with the production and release of
his first featured CD, As It Was.
Ihor performs in a freelance capacity in Vancouver
where, in addition to work with Phil Nimmons, the Vancouver
Symphony Orchestra, and CBC Television, he has to his
credit several Broadway productions including Cats,
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, and Evita.
He has performed with Harry Connick, Jr., Skywalk, Juno
Award winners Fraser MacPherson, Brad Turner, and PJ
Perry; recording artists David Foster, Bernadette Peters,
Shari Ulrich, and Jerry Reed, and was a contributing
performer on the Canadian Anthology of Jazz CD. Ihor
also holds a regular faculty position in the Jazz Studies
Program at Capilano College as an instructor of Improvisation
and Small Ensemble.
In Toronto before moving to BC, Ihor developed his
diverse musical skills working in a number of recording
studios, CBC and CTV television variety shows, CBC Radio,
and several live musical productions. His experience
there also includes performances with such jazz notables
as Ed Bickert, Pat LaBarbera, Dave McMurdo, and Pepper
Adams.
