Ornette Coleman to play Vancouver in February

Coastal Jazz & Blues Society announced today that Ornette Coleman, one of greatest innovators in the history of jazz will be appearing at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts on on February 17, 2008.It's been twenty years since Coleman's last appearance in Vancouver. His current band features Tony Falanga and Charnett Moffett acoustic basses, Al McDowell electric bass, and son Denardo Coleman on drums. Tickets are $75 and go on sale September 27. At 77, Coleman continues to push the music forward, exploring new territory, often with younger musicians and musicians from varying backgrounds. For his vision and innovation, 77-year-old Ornette Coleman has been rewarded with numerous accolades including the MacArthur “Genius” Award, the 2007 Pulitzer Prize in Music (for his live album Sound Grammar), and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
