IAJE conference

Jill Townsend heads to New York with her 17-piece big band to perform at the annual International Association for Jazz Education conference. I meant to get in touch with Jill long ago to learn more about how all this came about but one thing or another got in the way and, basically, I just blew it. I know next to nothing about IAJE, really. Vancouver guitarist and teacher Jeremy Hepner is vice-president of the Canadian chapter of the IAJE and I should have talked to him as well but I presume he’s also in NY by now. The cost of getting 17 musicians to New York, plus housing and feeding them while there, must be enormous. The band played a fundraiser at Tom Lee Music Hall on Sunday which was well-attended.
Darcy James Argue, ex-Vancouverite now based in New York, has been blogging the conference. It makes for some very interesting reading.
